Jeannette Sorrell, conductor & harpsichord
Telemann: Concerto Polonois
Telemann: Overture Burlesque
Gretry: Orchestral suite from Zémire et Azor
Mozart: Symphony No. 33
A rock star of the Baroque period is paired with one of the greatest composers of all time. The unparalleled Jeannette Sorrell conducts from the harpsichord for Telemann’s Concerto Polonois, inspired by Polish folk tunes, and his comedic Overture Burlesque. A bridge between the composers is Gretry’s orchestral suite from Zémire et Azor, a popular opera based on Beauty and the Beast. The mood is upbeat to the end, with Mozart’s bouncy and cheerful Symphony No. 33.
Part of the St. Petersburg Celebration of the Arts.
