Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 3
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5
Before Peter Tchaikovsky began his Fifth Symphony in 1888, he feared he was drained as a composer, and contemplated devoting time to his garden instead. Thankfully, he didn’t give up, and fate won out over flowers. Maestro Michael Francis pairs the symphony with Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, an ultra-virtuosic showpiece in the hands of brilliant pianist Benjamin Grosvenor. Opening the concert is the world premiere piece Ode to Liberty by Ahmed Al Abaca.
