Larry Rachleff, conductor
Simone Porter, violin
Beethoven: Violin Concerto
Gabriela Lena Frank: APU: Tone Poem for Orchestra
Debussy: La Mer
Due to the illness of our guest artist, The Florida Orchestra is changing this weekend’s program to Beethoven’s one-and-only Violin Concerto with Simone Porter. She steps in for Karen Gomyo, who was scheduled to perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto. The rest of the program remains unchanged, with Debussy’s La Mer and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Apu: Tone Poem for Orchestra, all under the baton of the great Larry Rachleff. The serenity and majesty of Beethoven’s famed Violin Concerto will be in the brilliant hands of Porter, who “has everything: gorgeous tone, power, a sense of drama but also a maturity well beyond her years,” according to the Edmonton Journal.
